About this experience
We paddle the creek that runs inland from the jetty side of Govind Nagar. The trip goes at high tide, so the start time changes with the day: between 6.30 am and 9 am, and we send you the exact time the evening before. We meet at the creek launch, five minutes' walk from the jetty, and spend 15 minutes on how to hold the paddle and turn the kayak.
The kayaks are stable two-seat sit-on-tops. We paddle about 4 kilometres in total, slowly, into channels where the mangrove roots close over your head. The guide points out kingfishers, mudskippers, fiddler crabs and the fish nurseries under the roots, and explains what the creek does for the island. Nobody swims: we stay in the kayaks the whole time.
Rs 1,800 per person for about two hours on the water. Children from 8 years, sharing a kayak with an adult. You will get wet from the paddles, so wear clothes that dry and shoes that can go in mud. There is a dry bag for one phone per kayak.
Before you book
Life jackets are worn at all times on the water. The guide paddles with the group and carries a whistle, a phone and a first aid kit. Nobody enters the water in the creek. We do not go out in heavy rain or a strong wind; the trip moves to another day or is refunded.
