About this experience
We leave from Havelock jetty at 8.30 am in our own boat with a captain and a guide. It is about 25 minutes along the north coast to Elephant Beach. On the way the guide fits your mask and fins and shows you how to clear the snorkel. Life jackets are worn by everyone in the water, swimmer or not.
The reef starts about 20 metres off the beach in 2 to 4 metres of water. You snorkel for about an hour in a small group with the guide beside you, over staghorn coral, parrotfish, damselfish and sometimes a turtle in the seagrass. Then there is time for tea and a walk on the beach. The boat leaves Elephant Beach at 11.15 am and you are back at the jetty by about 11.45 am.
Rs 2,200 per person, boat, equipment and guide included. Children from 6 years, in a life jacket. The sea is calmest from October to May. If the harbour master closes the jetty for weather we move you to the next day or refund you.
Before you book
Everyone wears a life jacket in the water and the guide stays within a few metres of the group. Do not stand on or touch the coral: it cuts, and it dies. The trip does not run if the harbour master closes the jetty or the swell is up at Elephant Beach; we decide by 7.30 am and message you. The boat carries a first aid kit and a radio.

You need
- Minimum age 6; children stay with an adult in the water
- Life jackets are worn by everyone, including strong swimmers
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen or a t-shirt in the water
- Bring a towel and a dry set of clothes; the boat is open
- Nothing comes back from the reef: no shells, no coral

If it is called off
Cancel 48 hours or more before your trip starts: full refund. Cancel 24-48 hours before: half refund. Inside 24 hours: no refund. If the operator or the weather cancels your trip, you are always refunded in full, automatically.
