About this experience
This is a first dive for people who have never dived. We meet at the shop on Beach 5 at 7.30 am. The first 40 minutes are on land: a form, the medical questions, and how the mask, regulator and jacket work. Then we walk into the water from the beach, practise breathing and clearing the mask in waist-deep water, and go down slowly along the sand to the reef.
The dive itself is 35 to 40 minutes at Nemo Reef, no deeper than 8 metres. Your instructor holds your jacket the whole time and never has more than two divers. You will see the anemone with clownfish that gave the reef its name, parrotfish, and often a moray or a turtle. We are back on the beach by about 9.45 am and you are free by 10.30 am.
Rs 4,500 per person, all equipment included. You do not need to be able to swim. Children from 10 years. Eat a light breakfast before you come, and do not book a flight for the same day or the next morning: no flying for 18 hours after the dive. Photos are not included; Rs 1,000 per person if you want them, ask on the day.
Before you book
Maximum depth 8 metres. One instructor to two divers, in contact for the whole dive. We do not dive if there is a swell on the beach or the visibility is under 5 metres; you move to another day or take a refund. First aid and oxygen are at the shop. Do not fly for 18 hours after the dive. Anyone who answers yes to a medical question needs a doctor's letter before we can take them.

Blue Dunghi Divers shop, Beach No. 5 (Vijay Nagar), on the main road between the Vijay Nagar junction and Kalapathar. Come on foot or by scooter; there is parking.

Cancel 48 hours or more before your trip starts: full refund. Cancel 24-48 hours before: half refund. Inside 24 hours: no refund. If the operator or the weather cancels your trip, you are always refunded in full, automatically.
